The Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing is a pioneer institute for nursing education in India and South East Asian region offering basic and higher education programmes. It is controlled financially by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and academically affiliated to University of Delhi as Department of Nursing under faculty of science. The primary objective of the College is to provide and promote education and research in the field of nursing.
The College was established in 1946 and initially B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing programme was formulated to train young women as professional nurses for meeting the health needs of the country. In 1959, the University approved the initiation of two years Master of Nursing programme, M.Phil, in Nursing was star ted in 1986 as a foundation course for undertaking doctoral work and in the year 1992, Doctoral programme in nursing was started under Department of Nursing, University of Delhi.
Besides the regular academic programmes, College also conducts short term courses for nursing personnel through the Department of Continuing Education. College is also designated as a regional study centre for Ph.D Programme in Nursing conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health science, Bangalore in collaboration with WHO and Indian Nursing Council.
The college is also in process of being established as centre of excellence in Nursing by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
The college is also recognized as a programme study centre by IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) for conducting post basic B.Sc. Nursing Course.
The College was selected as one of the sub-recipient for the GFATM (Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) project under INC.

राजकुमारी अमृतकौर नर्सिंग महाविद्यालय भारत और दक्षिण पूर्व एशियाई क्षेत्र में नर्सिंग शिक्षा की एक पुरोगामी संस्थान है जो मूलभूत और उच्च शिक्षा कार्यक्रम प्रस्तुत करता है।इसका वित्तीय नियंत्रण स्वास्थ्य एवं परिवार कल्याण मंत्रालय द्वारा होता है और यह विज्ञान के विषय के अधीन नर्सिंग विभाग के रूप में शैक्षणिक रूप से दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के सम्बद्ध है।महाविद्यालयका प्राथमिक उद्देश्य नर्सिंग के क्षेत्र में शिक्षा और अनुसंधान प्रदान करना और प्रोत्साहित करना है।
यह महाविद्यालय1946 में स्थापित हुआ था और देश की स्वास्थ्य आवश्यकताओं को पूरी करने हेतुयुवा महिलाओं को व्यवसायिक नर्सों का प्रशिक्षण प्रदान करने के लिए आरंभ में बी.एस.सी (ऑनर्स) नर्सिंग कार्यक्रम का सूत्रण किया गया था।1959 में, विश्वविद्यालय ने दो वर्षों की नर्सिंग में मास्टर्स कार्यक्रम आरंभ करने की स्वीकृति प्रदान की, और डॉक्टोरल कार्य की शुरुआत करने के लिए एक बुनियादी पाठ्यक्रम के रूप में 1986 में नर्सिंग में एम.फिल कार्यक्रम आरंभ हुआ था और वर्ष 1992 में, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की नर्सिंग विभाग के अधीन नर्सिंग में डॉक्टोरल कार्यक्रम आरंभ हुआ था।
नियमित शैक्षणिक कार्यक्रमों के अलावा, महाविद्यालय नर्सिंग कर्मचारियों के लिए कंटीन्यूइंग एजुकेशन विभाग के माध्यम से अल्प-कालिक पाठ्यक्रम भी आयोजित करता है।महाविद्यालय को डब्लूएचओ और भारतीय नर्सिंग परिषद् के सहयोग से राजीव गाँधी स्वास्थ्य विज्ञान विश्वविद्यालय, बैंगलोर द्वारा आयोजित नर्सिंग में पी.एच.डी कार्यक्रम के लिए एक क्षेत्रीय अध्ययन केंद्र के रूप में भी मान्यता प्रदान की गई है।
महाविद्यालय को स्वास्थ्य एवं परिवार कल्याण मंत्रालय द्वारा नर्सिंग का एक उत्कृष्ट केंद्र (सेंटर ऑफ़ एक्सीलेंस) के रूप में स्थापित करने की प्रक्रिया जारी है।
महाविद्यालय को पोस्ट बेसिक बी.एस.सी नर्सिंग पाठ्यक्रम आयोजित करने के लिए इग्नू (इंदिरा गांधी राष्ट्रीय मुक्त विश्वविद्यालय) द्वारा एक कार्यक्रम अध्ययन केंद्र के रूप में मान्यता प्राप्त है।
महाविद्यालय को आईएनसी के अधीन जीऍफ़एटीएम (एड्स, ट्यूबरक्लोसिस और मलेरिया के लिए वैश्विक निधि) के लिए एक उप-आदाता के रूप में भी चुना गया था।
